promoted within a year to Senior Product Manager.
Possessing a BSME and an MBA, successful candidate brought creativity and thought leadership in the data center cooling space to this most critical role.
Tasked with helping to set the future direction of the marquis product line, successful candidate not only helped reverse
slipping market share, but helped achieve the turnaround by which client's market share was significantly increased.
Likewise, every point gained translated into significant margin improvement, making client an attractive acquisition target.
Client subsequently engaged TBG for a second search for a
National Business Development Manager
to sustain and grow current position in the rapidly growing data center market, by leveraging
existing relationships and developing new ones in underserved segments e.g. mission critical data center architects, engineer and consulting firms,
commercial construction firms, and other players involved in the design build and operation of mega data centers.

About the opportunity:
Privately held company, we are the recognized leader in our segment of the mission critical data center space. We’re looking for a savvy player in the data center cooling space to come in and help set the future direction of our marquis product line for optimizing data center air flow, temperature, humidity, etc. Virtually all mission critical data centers require a sophisticated temperature cooling solution. If you have a strong grounding in the evolution of trends around the cooling requirements of data centers, and a good handle on the current and future direction of energy-efficient mission critical data centers – e.g. the various engineering design alternatives for data center air flow – this may be the ideal career move.
About the position:
The successful candidate will have experience performing (or demonstrated potential to perform) the following responsibilities:
- Research and identify -- as they relate to data center environments: best of breed products for cooling and airflow, documented best practices and strategies for alternative cooling and venting (e.g. under floor, perimeter, in-row cooling, etc.)
- Alternative strategies and solutions used in the DC environment for environmental conditioning that impact product development in any of the above categories.
- Emerging Trends / Latest Strategies in data center designs as they affect environments and cooling.
- Identify and develop symbiotic relationships / partnerships with other product vendors whose solutions are designed to optimize the precision cooling and/or air flow of data centers e.g.
- Other Product Manufacturers serving the data center market
- Third party experts e.g. white paper authors addressing data center air flow needs
- Leading Design, Contracting, IT & Facility Management, and Hardware/Software manufacturers
- Bring a solutions focus on Three Key sectors for the Data Center market:
- Corporate data centers (companies with mission critical availability and performance requirements)
- Third Party Data Centers (e.g. colos, hosting providers, data center backup and recovery sites, etc.)
- Telecommunication firms (with massive data center and cooling requirements)
- Participate credibly and contribute substantively in relevant data center industry forums and organizations such as Uptime Institute, 7x 24, AFCOM, IFMA, etc. including appropriate presence in relevant tradeshows, speaking at conferences, etc.
- Facilitate successful handoff of business opportunities (e.g. project leads, national account opportunities, specific buying agreements, etc.) to Director of Sales for pricing and management.
- Success in this position will require extensive research activity, involving potentially significant travel in order to identify and develop relationships and partnerships with End Users / Data Center Owners, and Product Manufacturers.
- You will also be collecting, analyzing and presenting empirical data -- from both the field and the lab -- in support of specific Project and Product opportunities.
Requirements:
In addition, the successful candidates will have the following minimum required qualifications and experience:
- Four year degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution
- Minimum of five years professional experience in data center design, planning, construction, or operation, with a preference for candidates who have both technical and sales support experience
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
- Excellent organization skills, including ability to handle multiple tasks effectively
- Proficient in use of Autocad and Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Powerpoint
- Preferred: experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Modeling

Target Compensation includes a market competitive base salary based on relevant experience and recent history, and full benefits package. You will report directly to the Director of Marketing and Product Engineering, with a “dotted line” to the Director of Sales and Business Development. You will become recognized as the data center expert of the raised floor industry, and ultimately be widely viewed as the “go to” person – internally and externally – as the most knowledgeable source around emerging market trends and technology.
