Electrical Engineer, Mission Critical Facilities Design & Engineering - request for referral
Nationally Ranked Consulting Engineering and Design Firm
Location: Richmond VA (Glen Allen area)

About the opportunity:
If you are a BSEE or MSEE with a PE and gained your critical environments design and engineering experience working for an engineering consulting firm, this may be the best (and only) career move you will ever want to make.

We're looking for PEs whose recent electrical design and engineering experience has been focused on highly specialized, critical facilities – especially data centers and highly secure facilities -- where the environmental requirements are very precise and exacting.

Because the work that we do is so sensitive, all candidates must not only be clearable, but most be U.S. citizens who were born in the states! Our engineers tell us that they join us because of our work life balance (travel is carefully managed and extremely well rewarded) and generous benefits programs (we pay into your 401K even if you don't). Those same engineers tell us they stay with us because the work we do is so interesting and cutting edge -- (the kind of projects most engineers will never even hear about), and the unbeatable quality of life in the Richmond area.

About the position: If you have the following qualifications and a proven track record of experience performing the following responsibilities, we would like to hear from you:

  • BSEE and PE (or EIT) with 10+years experience in mission critical facility design and engineering gained while working for an MEP firm or A/E firm, including the following:
    • Performing the electrical engineering discipline on critical facilities projects, preferably data centers, including electrical design of mission critical building power distribution systems, emergency power systems, lighting, fire alarm, telecom grounding, lightning protection and security systems, etc.
    • Reviewing electrical designs, and performing site reviews and inspections
    • Preparing feasibility reports, electrical specs and bid documents
  • American born U.S. Citizen eligible for high level Security Clearance
  • Effective Interfacing with clients/contractors
  • Proficient user of MS Office
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% to 50%
  • Currently living in the Richmond area or willing to relocate with moderate financial assistance

Preferred: Professionals who meet all of the above criteria and one or more of the following will receive preference.

  • Critical facilities commissioning experience
  • Experience leading the electrical engineering discipline on critical facilities projects
  • Masters in EE and/or  LEED AP
  • Not only a Licensed Electrical Engineer, but an established NCEES record is preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD / ABS / Revit a plus, especially the ability to effectively communicate electrical design intent to CAD techs
  • Experience in medium voltage and SCADA systems a plus

Target Profile: Successful candidate is likely to be attracted to a company that 1) rewards performance, 2) encourages proactive career planning and professional development, and 3) provides the opportunity for all employees to become an owner.  Candidates who do well in this culture have also worked for national firms such as HP Critical Facilities (alum of EYP Mission Critical Facilities), AECOM, AEC Engineering, Affiliated Engineers, AKF Engineers, CH2M Hill, Jacobs, Parsons Brinkerhoff, Syska Hennessy, Kling Stubbins, URS, Vanderweil, as well as local firms such as Malcolm Pirnie, H C Yu & Associates, Dewberry, Dunlap Partners, Progressive Design, Alliance Engineering and Whitman Requardt & Associates.

Candidate Value Proposition: Our client’s commitment to work life balance and competitive compensation is unique in the industry.  While many engineering consulting firms keep headcount low, effectively assuming a 60 hour work week as the default, our client pro-actively hires to ensure that they are staffed at a level where by peak periods involve a 45 to 50 hour work week.  Engineers are not asked to travel for extended periods of time (no more than two weeks, back to back).  Instead of expense reimbursement, our engineers enjoy a daily per diem which they are free to spend or save as they would like.   Total compensation includes a competitive base salary (depending on relevant experience and recent compensation history) and performance-driven bonus opportunity. Comprehensive benefits package includes:

  • Medical/dental coverage.
  • 401k plan with matching
  • Profit share program
  • Life insurance, Short and Long Term Disability
  • Employee Assistance
  • Tuition Reimbursement and professional growth programs

Professional advancement: current employees have first right of refusal on new opportunities in other offices across the nation.
